Artist's Comments

This picture was taken during the summer of 2004 on Kos. The escavation was on a hill far above the city and I was sooooo proud of myself for biking all the way up there in the morning sun. Believe me, it was well worth the effort. What I really love about the columns is the contrast or likeness with the pines in the background. I have been told that pine trees were often used to create columns - this is especially true on Crete, where very often only the stone basis of a column remains. But here, the column is made of stone.

According to the local legends, the air of the high hills and the pine trees had a healing effect, so for many centuries, this has been the site of temples and churches dedicated to healing. I am willing to believe in the healing effect - the pines gave the place a wonderful smell and it was the perfect place to find peace of mind.

My friend CausticTherapy has a tendency towards ruins and holy buildings, so I dedicate this picture to him.

:) .. I like it I can see Lil Harihausen medusas and skelingtons running round here (just think of the Jason and the golden fleese movies from the 70's) ... I like the harsh shadows in this pic (but hell I love the sun so that probably one of the main reasons LOL)

Thanks hun for the dedication .. Oooo I'm gonna have to dedicate something now :)

Thank you. This picture was taken by a non-digital camera and scanned by the developers, so it is not as good quality as it could have been, though. Sort of grainy.

Are you coming with me to Greece this summer so we can compete at taking pictures of ruins?
:iconcaustictherapy:
Is that a challeng ? LOL and Denmark to greece :S and here I was thinking England to Tenerife was a drastic climate change :S LOL

I like the color scheme of the picture it looks more like the past or simply a memory when you close your eyes

Tenerife is toooo touristy... :) Nice vulcanos, but you cannot throw a rock without hitting a tourist in the summer. Greece have a few spots a little less touristy. Yeah, let's make it a challenge. You'll win, but I'll have fun.

Proud to be a member of Denmark

Thats the whole point of taking a cse of sticks LOL ... TBH if you know where to go you can find some places where the tourists don't go, and the seas are so clear round there so if I had an underwater camera ;) then I'd have more fun LOL
